I'm so glad you're here!

Eclectic Education was born from a simple conviction: great literature should do more than teach students to pass a test—it should help them understand people, history, ideas, and ultimately point them toward truth.

As I homeschooled my own children, I found myself longing for literature resources that didn't separate English from history, critical thinking, or faith. Instead, I wanted a curriculum that encouraged students to ask meaningful questions, investigate historical events, compare ideas carefully, and thoughtfully evaluate them through the lens of Scripture.

Through prayer and much encouragement, God impressed upon my heart a vision for creating resources that would help families and educators move beyond surface-level comprehension and into deeper learning.

That vision became Eclectic Education.

Our Mission

Where Good Literature Meets Living History & Faith

At Eclectic Education, our mission is to help students discover that great books are more than stories—they are windows into history, culture, human nature, and the ideas that have shaped civilizations.

Every novel study is intentionally designed around four connected lenses that work together to create a richer learning experience.

Literature

Students move beyond basic comprehension to analyze themes, symbolism, literary devices, characterization, vocabulary, author's purpose, and the craftsmanship behind great writing.

Living History

History comes alive as students explore the real people, places, events, photographs, maps, timelines, and primary sources that shaped the world of the novel.

Book & Movie Comparison

Students develop media literacy by thoughtfully comparing the original work with its film adaptation, examining character changes, historical accuracy, omitted scenes, symbolism, and directorial choices.

Christian Worldview

Rather than telling students what to think, our resources encourage them to thoughtfully compare the ideas presented in literature with biblical principles. Students explore questions of justice, compassion, stewardship, integrity, sacrifice, human dignity, and truth while learning to evaluate worldviews with discernment and respect.

Why Eclectic Education Is Different

Many novel studies focus primarily on vocabulary quizzes, comprehension questions, and chapter tests.

Those skills are important—but they are only part of the picture.

Eclectic Education is built on the belief that classic literature offers opportunities to integrate multiple subjects into one meaningful learning experience.

Instead of studying a novel in isolation, students are invited to:

• Explore the historical events that shaped the story.

• Investigate primary source documents and historical photographs.

• Compare books with their film adaptations.

• Analyze literary themes and symbolism.

• Develop critical thinking through debates and investigations.

Our goal is not simply to help students finish a novel—it is to help them become thoughtful readers, lifelong learners, and discerning thinkers.
